Musings on the life redeemed & purpose redefined

Pumpkins from the archives October 26, 2011

We haven’t gone yet this year. And I know most of you have. So, I’m asking your opinion:

Which pumpkin patch is the best?

Never before have there been so many great local options for this fun fall experience. For the past couple of years, we have headed to Buckelew Farms and have enjoyed every bit of it. We’ve found them to be well-organized with surprisingly tasty food. Although the cost of the day starts to add up, they seem to have all the fun farmy activities for the kiddos in one place.

Just take a look at a few of our pictures from last year:

They’re still some of my favorites…

But this year, we’re carefully considering our options. We’ve never been to the seemingly beloved Apple Annie’s or the newer Marana Pumpkin Patch.

We have one very special day for pumpkin festivities, folks. Help us make it count:)

Did you go to the pumpkin patch this year? Which one is your favorite and why?

  1. We are part of the Apple Annie’s fan crowd! Although I’ve heard good things about the one in Amado–Agua Linda I think is the name.

  2. We did the Marana one.. I have a post about it here:

We had fun and it is rather close for us!

I will encourage you to go back to Buckalew, but for a different reason than you might expect… Buckalew is located in the Altar Valley, an area with an extremely high poverty rate. My mom is working closely with their Superintendent of Schools to help them raise funds for their families, because so many of the children live in unsettling conditions–no utilities at home, for example. I can’t even imagine. The owner of Buckalew Farms is a supporter of the schools there and many of the older kids work at Buckalew on the weekends for tips. We went last weekend and had a great time! Instead of doing the corn maze, eating all the food, etc, we spent a ton of time in the pumpkin patch picking our favorite pumpkins, and then paid the teenagers to cart them back to our car. They were so appreciative. It’s a community that I think needs our support…

  4. We really like Apple Annie’s. This is the second year in a row that we’ve gone, after having spent a year at Buckelew (which we really didn’t care for only because I thought they nickel and dimed us to death). Apple Annie’s is a bit of a drive, admittedly, but the weather is–often times–much more fall’ish in Wilcox anyway. I’d give it two thumbs up!

  5. […] thanks for all the great pumpkin patch recommendations! Sadly, we will probably have to wait until next […]
